Investor Relations (IR) Crisis Communications Training
IR professionals are often at the centre of high-stakes situations where clear and timely communication is critical. The IR Crisis Communications Training Course, organised by SGListCos (part of the Value Unlock Equip Grant), brought together IROs, finance and corporate communications professionals, as well as senior management from listed companies for a hands-on workshop on navigating crises in today’s complex communications environment.
The session was conducted by Ang Shih-Huei, CEO & Co-Founder of H/Advisors Klareco, who shared practical frameworks and real-world examples drawn from crisis advisory experience. Participants explored how incidents such as cyber breaches or data leaks can quickly evolve into multi-dimensional crises involving investors, regulators and the media. As highlighted during the session, “speed is of the essence – if organisations do not act quickly, they lose control and are no longer the source of information.”
The importance of having a structured crisis playbook and clear messaging frameworks was also emphasised.
Attendees also discussed the need for IR professionals to stay alert to early signals across the organisation, as routine operational issues can escalate quickly. As noted during the session, “Keep looking outside and outwards.”
Through scenario exercises and practical simulations, participants applied the Message House framework and practised responding to investor and media queries during crisis situations.
As Singapore’s capital markets continue to evolve, including initiatives such as the S$6.5 billion EQDP, strengthening crisis communication capabilities remains an important part of the IR function.
